8.8.2005DEFEND participates in the development of the Skoda Fabia Kit Car prototype
One of the most favoured vehicles on Czech tracks a few years ago was the Skoda Felicia Kit Car. Being created in the workshops of the Impromat Motosport team and with the significant contribution of Defend Company is an attractive successor. The impatiently awaited Skoda Fabia Kit Car already has its first kilometres behind it. “We still have loads of work ahead of us, but the Fabia is a good foundation. If everything goes well, a competitive car could be created, which will be able to keep up with everyone.” believes the Czech champion Jan Kopecky, who is participating in the development.
At the home base of the Impromat team in Zlin-Zelechovice they’ve built two prototypes. One is driven by Kopecky, the second by Vlastimil Bruzl, who is the patron of the entire project. He has good experience with similar challenges, because he’s taking care of preparations of cup vehicles for the Skoda Octavia Cup. “The Skoda Auto leadership and I agreed on a project. The model has so far received national certification for sprints, now we’re negotiating international certification.” indicated Bruzl.
The Skoda Fabia Kit Car has behind it two competitions in Pelhrimov and Kopna. In the surroundings of Slusovice, Kopecky indicated the vehicle’s potential when he won in Group A and was fifth overall. The Skoda Fabia Kit Car should not be missing in the remaining sprints in Blovice, Pacejov, Vyskov, Hradec Kralove and Vsetin. “Currently we’re reworking the undercarriage, are working on different shock settings, and are refining a number of other things.” revealed Bruzl. “We’re satisfied with how the vehicle is developing, but there’s still a lot of work ahead of us. We’ve for example got different shocks prepared for testing.”
Despite the fact that the Skoda Fabia Kit Car doesn’t yet have international certification, there is already interest in the model. If everything turns out well, the domestic championship could spread an attractive and spectator-requested model. Fans that haven’t seen the novelty in sprints yet will apparently get a chance during the peak of the domestic season – the Barum Rally in Zlin. “We should be driving as forerunners,” indicated Bruzl.
